As long as you’re aware that this trail – arguably the most popular hike in Bryce Canyon – will be very busy, you’ll love the Navajo Loop Trail for its close-up views of some of the park’s most stunning rock formations – Thor’s Hammer, Two Bridges, and Wall Street for instance. It’s quite a short loop and, for that reason, easy to do at sunrise or sunset when the bright orange and pale pink hues of the hoodoos are most spectacular.
Another option, if you’re trying to escape the crowds, is to go at night. You’ll need to wrap up warm and take a headlamp, and the striking colours of the hoodoos won’t be visible, of course, but a night hike through this maze was one of the most magical and memorable experiences of our stay in Bryce.
If you’re not an experienced hiker, you might want to take hiking poles for the tight switchbacks, as there’s sand and loose gravel in some sections. Please also note that in winter, you will not be able to hike the full circuit, as the Wall Street side of the loop is closed whenever nighttime temperatures drop below freezing; the Two Bridges side remains open year-round.
